Contains records from the public land office in Chillicothe. Entries include date of application, applicant's name, applicant's residence, quarter section, section, township, range, and number of acres. Applications to purchase land include, if applicable, date of resale, name of new buyer, residence of new buyer, and amount paid. Accounts of monies received include amount paid and name of surveyor. Forfeitures note amount of payments, expenses of sale, amount forfeited to the state, and name of the surveyor.

An act of Congress dated May 10, 1800, established federal land offices in Steubenville, Cincinnati, Chillicothe, and Marietta to facilitate the sale of land in the Northwest Territory.
